'HR 5141, known as the Humane Cosmetics Act, is a law which aims to eliminate all testing of cosmetics on animals. Aside from this, it also promotes finding new strategies to test products that do not involve animals, and mandates that the companies that previously used animal testing must find a replacement within a year of the law’s passing. This is important since testing products on animals is often detrimental to their health and can cause permanent injury or even death in animals that are tested. Typically, rabbits are used the most in these tests, however other animals such as rats, guinea pigs, or even dogs are also used. Many of the tests used on animals today were first used over fifty years ago and new, alternative methods of testing exist that are even more accurate than the old tests performed on animals. Many of these tests, such as ones testing embryotoxicity, can have varying effects on animals tested and thus may be inaccurate for humans. The use of these outdated tests on animals is cruel and should be stopped to prevent the unnecessary suffering of future animals that may have cosmetics tested on them. #WCUCRJ325HS'
