Welcome back to Focus Atlanta. A couple of weeks ago, we introduced you to Zoom. The newest rave in whitening your teeth. Commentator: Zoom, it's a radically new, chair side whitening system designed to give you the power to create a new smile in just one office visit. One of the biggest perks of this process is the length of time it takes to get your teeth four to six shades whiter. Dr. Deborah King: Zoom is an in office whitening procedure and in about an hour/hour and a half we can whiten your teeth and make them just beautiful and sparkly! With such dramatic differences in such a short amount of time, there are always skeptics. So, we decided to put Zoom to the test. Commentator: Zoom uses light energy to enhance the whitening process using an advanced whitening formula. Once exposed to the Zoom light, the oxygen atoms in the active ingredient, hydrogen peroxide, are quickly released into the enamel and lighten the teeth by a process known as oxygenation. This treatment is completely safe, altering only the discoloration and not the tooth structure. Dr. King: We'll cover your clothes and your face and all that, because we just want the whitening gel to only get on the teeth obviously. Commentator: Next, thoroughly dry the teeth and gums. Then use the black, Liquid Dam syringe and metal tip to carefully apply the Liquid Dam resin around each tooth at the gingival margin, ensuring that no soft tissue remains exposed. Using a standard curing light, cure the resin above each tooth for one second, apply the gel over the facial service of each tooth to be whitened, and spread using the applicator brush. Dr. King: There's nothing that in uncomfortable. You are laid back and you're relaxed. A lot of times you can watch a movie while you're having this done or listen to music. Commentator: Bring the lamp head into position over the patient's teeth and attach the guide post to the slots located on each side of the exposure area at the front end of the lamp head. Now with the Zoom product, we do the in office whitening at the same time and then you can take home the at home trays so that you can make it even whiter if you'd like to or a few years down the road if you decide you want to sparkle them up a little bit, you have everything you need to do that.
