'Deceleration with Bungee cords'

00:16 Oct 6, 2023
'Deceleration with Bungee Cords is a great movement to train younger athletes on how to decelerate, or stop their momentum, by engaging the posterior chain (glutes and hamstrings). Many athletes (young women in particular) use the front of their legs to slow themselves down. This is less effective and also increases the risk of injury. Proper deceleration is important and the resistance in this drill allows us to practice it at a slow speed. In an athletic position, walk backwards away from the bungee\'s attachment until a decent amount of resistance is achieved. From here, sit the weight back into the heels and hips and feel the tightness in the back of the legs. Then, take small, controlled steps forward while resisting the bungee from pulling you forward quickly.
