'Sweet potato is a great first food for your baby. You can either steam it or bake it. If you’re just starting on solids, I would suggest you to steam. It takes only 7-9 minutes and is easy to consume. Why is sweet potato a great first food? It’s complex carbohydrate (which simply means that it provides prolonged energy and stabilize your blood sugar as opposed to simple carbohydrates that create spikes) and is rich in Vitamin B and beta carotene (that is the precursor of Vitamin A). It also contains Vitamin D, magnesium, potassium and iron among other micronutrients. Sweet potatoes naturally taste sweet and your baby would love them! Interesting fact: Christopher Columbus took sweet potatoes to Europe after his first voyage to the New World in 1492. Go to: 4.29m - how to peel and cut; 5.10m - Steaming; 6.00m - Baking ____________________________ The Baby-led weaning (BLW) approach to start on solid food has great benefits for our babies and for the family as a whole. It boosts independence, improves dexterity, enhance confidence, builds social skills, promotes self-regulation of appetite and is great FUN! (BLW should not be started before your baby is 6 months old!)
