'SIRU KIZHANGU RECIPE / CHINESE POTATO CURRY RECIPE IN TAMIL'

'hi viewers, today\'s video is about a recipe made from SIRU KIZHANGU (KILANGU) / CHINESE POTATO also commonly called as shivakizhangu, kaarthigai kizhangu, kanvalikkizhangu, koorkkan kizhangu... which belongs to tuber family and is highly produced in our Tamil Nadu and Kerala and exported in large quantities to other countries because of its known health benefits..  it is highly obtained in the months of November, December, January and February..  this potato is rich in protein and minerals.. its protein content is twice more than in potatoes.. also it is rich in beta carotene, calcium and iron... also this helps in proper Blood circulation.. when taken often in our food it also aids in weight reduction by reducing the amount of cholesterol in our body... so I hope you all to understand the healthy nature of the siru kizhangu (kilangu) and include in your diet.. this potato can be used in various types of recipes like curry, fry, poriyal, masiyal etc.. and today\'s our recipe is a simple curry.. Ingredients: siru kizhangu (kilangu)  /   chinese potatoes     -   250 g puli   /   tamarind     -     small lemon sized nallennai   /     gingelly oil     -    3 tbsp kadugu    /   mustard seeds     -    1/2 tsp chinna vengaayam    /    shallots    -      30 nos thakkaali  /   tomatoes    -    2 nos   (medium sized) karuveppilai   /    curry leaves    -    few manjal thool    /   turmeric pdr     -   1/2 tsp kulambu milagai thool   /    all purpose chilly powder   -   2tsps milagai thool   /    red chilly powder    -    1 tsp    (optional) salt as per requirement  Procedure: *soak the siru kilangu / chinese potatoes  for about 2 hrs before the preparation, for cooking it. this helps in removing the dirt and peel the skin easily. *soak a small lemon sized tamarind in water for the curry. *after 2 hrs of soaking, wash the potatoes thoroughly and peel the skin and cut them into small pieces and put them in a bowl of water. *switch on the stove, place the kadaai , heat it, add the gingelly oil and allow it to get heated. *now add the mustard seeds and then add the chopped shallots and curry leaves and saute them well. *next step is to add the chopped tomatoes and salt and saute them until the tomatoes gets cooked. *then add the siru kilangu into the kadaai and mix them well and cover with a lid. *after 2 mins remove the lid and saute them well and again cover with the lid.. repeat this step for another time.. *next remove the lid and check for the potatoes to be cooked enough and now add the turmeric, all purpose chilly powder (red chilly powder -  optional if you want the curry to be more spicy) and mix well. *now add the tamarind extract and mix them well and allow it to boil for about 2 mins... *then add enough water for the curry and cover with lid and allow it to boil for another  5 mins. *remove the lid, check for salt and now switch off the flame.. *our siru kizhangu curry is ready to be served with hot plain rice... please SUBSCRIBE our channel and click the BELL ICON for the notifications from our channel about our new videos...
